Editorial policy
People follow our instructions on real equipment, sometimes involving electricity, gas or child safety. This is how we try to deserve that trust.
Sources
Product pages are based on the manufacturer's own documentation: owner's manuals, installation guides, quick start guides and official support articles. When sources disagree, we use the most recent official document and note the difference if it matters.
We don't use forum posts, videos or other manual sites as a source for instructions. Those can be useful for spotting common problems, but the steps themselves come from the manufacturer.
Writing
Pages are written by people, for people. We rewrite instructions in plain language, keep the steps in the manufacturer's order, and keep safety warnings intact. We don't pad pages to hit a word count.
Safety sensitive topics
For car seats, gas appliances, electrical wiring and medical devices, we deliberately avoid restating numeric limits such as weight ranges, torque values or voltages unless we are quoting them directly from the official document for that exact model. In most cases we explain where to find the information and link to the source instead.
Updates and corrections
Each page shows the date it was last updated. When a manufacturer revises a manual, changes a procedure through a firmware update or issues a recall, we update the page. If you find a mistake, use the "Report a problem" link on any page or contact us. We fix confirmed errors quickly and note significant corrections.
Independence and advertising
No manufacturer pays for coverage or can review a page before publication. If we ever show advertising, it will never appear inside step-by-step instructions, and we will never use pop-ups or interstitials.
