Where's the model number?
It's the one thing every search needs, and it's always hidden somewhere awkward. Pick a product to see where to look.
Inside the door opening
On front loaders, open the door and look at the rim of the opening. Top loaders keep it under the lid or on the back of the control panel. Dryers usually use the door opening too.

Open the fresh food door and check the side walls of the compartment, usually high up. If you can't see it there, pull out the crisper drawers and look behind or below them.

The sticker is on the back of the TV. If it's wall mounted, leave it there and open the settings menu instead. Look under Support, About or System Information.

Flip it over. The label has the model and hardware version, plus the default Wi-Fi name, password and admin login address. You need the hardware version to download the right firmware.

On the edge of the tub or door
Open the door and check the side edges of the tub opening, or along the top edge of the inner door. It's often a small silver sticker that is easy to miss.

VIN on the dash and door jamb
Cars don't use a model number for manuals. You want the year, model and trim, which the VIN gives you. Read it through the windshield on the driver's side, or on the door jamb label, which also lists tire pressures.
