A reset is the most copied piece of advice on the internet and the least explained. Before you hold any button for twenty seconds, it helps to know which kind of reset you're about to do.

A restart (sometimes called a soft reset or power cycle) just turns the device off and on. Nothing is deleted. A factory reset wipes settings, pairings and often stored data, and puts the device back the way it came out of the box. You'll have to set it up again afterwards, so try a restart first.
