01 Quick answers
Hard reset a frozen Switch
If the screen is black and the console doesn't respond, it may be frozen rather than dead. This doesn't delete anything.
- Press and hold the POWER button for at least 12 seconds.
- Release it, then press POWER once normally to turn it back on.
- If nothing happens, charge it with the official AC adapter for at least 30 minutes and try again.
Open Maintenance Mode
Maintenance Mode lets you update, restore settings or initialize the console. Turn the console fully off. Then hold both volume buttons (+ and −) and press POWER. Keep holding the volume buttons until the menu appears. "Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data" is the gentlest option to try first.
02 Finding the model number
The model number HEG-001 is printed on the back of the console, under the kickstand area. System Settings, System also shows the serial information.

05 Owner questions
Can I use the OLED model in my old Switch dock?
Yes, the OLED console fits the original dock, and the OLED dock works with the original console.
Will initializing delete my games?
A full initialize deletes everything. The Maintenance Mode option "without deleting save data" keeps saves, but backing up to Nintendo Switch Online cloud saves first is wise.
