Speeds and settings
The DCD771 has two speed ranges selected with the slider on top. Use low speed (1) for driving screws and drilling large holes, and high speed (2) for drilling small holes quickly. The adjustable clutch collar slips at a set torque so you don't strip screws. Pick a low number and work up.
Charger light meanings
DeWalt chargers use a red light pattern to show charging, fully charged, and a hot or cold battery delay. The exact meanings are printed on a label on the charger itself, which is the quickest place to check. A battery that is too hot after heavy use will wait until it cools before charging.
Care
Blow dust out of the motor vents regularly and keep the tool dry. Don't use solvents on the housing. Store batteries at room temperature and away from metal objects that could short the terminals.

Will FLEXVOLT batteries fit the DCD771?
Yes. DeWalt FLEXVOLT batteries work in 20V MAX tools. They are heavier but last longer.
The chuck won't hold the bit tightly. What can I do?
Tighten the chuck firmly by hand with the drill in the clutch setting. If bits keep slipping, the chuck jaws may be worn or dirty, and a service center can replace the chuck.
