Maintenance

Leak test the gas connections

Do this when you first connect a tank, every time you change the tank, and at the start of each season. It takes five minutes.

  1. Make sure all burner knobs are off and the lid is open.
  2. Mix a little dish soap with water in a spray bottle.
  3. Open the tank valve slowly.
  4. Spray the regulator connection, hose and valve connections.
  5. Growing bubbles mean a leak. Close the tank valve, tighten the connection and test again. If bubbles persist, don't use the grill.

Never test for leaks with a flame, and don't smoke nearby.

Maintenance

Cleaning routine

Preheat on high for about 15 minutes and brush the grates before cooking. Empty and clean the grease tray and catch pan regularly, since grease buildup is the most common cause of flare ups. A couple of times a year, clean the burner tubes and ports with a stainless steel brush.

Setup & install

Low flame or slow heating

If the grill only reaches a low temperature, the regulator may have gone into bypass mode. Turn all knobs off, close the tank valve, disconnect the regulator, wait a minute, reconnect, then open the tank valve slowly before lighting.

02 Finding the model number

Open the cart doors or look on the back of the firebox for the data label. It lists the model, serial number and the gas type (LP or natural gas). Never use a grill with a gas type it wasn't built for.

05 Owner questions

Can I convert my propane Genesis to natural gas?

Only with the conversion kit Weber approves for your model, and ideally by a qualified technician. Many models aren't convertible. Check the manual for your exact model before buying parts.

Why is my grill flaring up?

Grease buildup in the cook box or catch pan. Scrape the cook box and clean the grease management system, then preheat before cooking.
